You can definitely hear it operating, I wouldn't call it quiet. The power switch is positioned awkwardly in the very back of the unit for some reason. The drain is great, I love not having to pick it up to dump it every day. Good strong ultrasonic power. The first time we used it, we found some gunk on the bottom of the tank that our old unit left on our instruments.
