Water is used in a multitude of dental procedures in order to flush a patient’s oral cavity. Because water is regularly used in a dental practice, you want to make sure your water is the cleanest it can be for the sake of your patients. Which is exactly why you should use a high-quality water purification system for your dental waterline.
Water purification systems help to ensure dental unit waterline safety by providing you with clean water at all times. Many water purification systems, like DentaPure, provide safe water for 365 days and can go to either a bottle-based or municipal waterline system. Using a water purification system is quite simple, all you have to do is install it to your existing bottle and you’re all set.
Once a water purification system is installed, it should typically be shocked every few months. Keep in mind that it will vary by system, so make sure to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Dental infection control is an important aspect of dental care that is owed to every patient. Although municipal water may be safe for drinking, that doesn’t mean it’s safe for dental procedures. Without proper sterilization, waterborne microorganisms can accumulate in the dental unit waterline and enter the water stream. This poses the risk of infection to a patient during any procedure that requires water from the waterline. Which is why it’s recommended that you use a dental unit water bottle. A water purification system, like Sterisil Straw or DentaPure, is an easy way to get clean, consistent water flow to your dental practice while reducing the risk of infection while patients are in your care.
Waterline testing kits can be used to monitor your system. Note that it may be time to replace your water purifications solution if you notice a film forming. Some brands like DentaPure will automatically remind you when it’s time to replace the cartridge, which makes installation that much easier.
All you have to do is install it to your existing system and change it every few months or once a year—depending on the solution you’re using—and your dental practice will be set with a consistent flow of clean water to your dental waterline. No more worrying about the possibility of infection from water during a procedure. With advanced water purification systems, that won’t be an issue.
