Alginate Impression Material

Alginate is an elastic hydrocolloid impression material derived from alginic acid compounds. When mixed with water, alginate forms a smooth paste that can be placed in an impression tray to capture the shape of teeth and surrounding tissues.

After setting, the material becomes flexible, allowing it to be removed from the mouth while retaining the detailed impression needed to create dental models or appliances.

Because alginate impressions are easy to take and comfortable for patients, they are commonly used for preliminary impressions and diagnostic purposes.
